Antonio C. Delgado of the Philippines served as Philippine ambassador to the Vatican from 1975 to 1985, as well as chairman of the World Scout Committee of the World Organization of the Scout Movement from 1971 to 1973.
In 1946 he founded Delgado Brothers Incorporated and transformed it into the largest fully integrated transportation company in the Philippines which held interests in the Manila Hilton (First 5 star hotel in the Philippines), The Port of Manila, Gas stations, tankers and other varied businesses.
His son, Jose Antonio, was a member of the Phllipines contingent to the 11th World Scout Jamboree, all of whom were killed in the crash of United Arab Airlines Flight 869 on 28th July 1963.
In 1971, Delgado was awarded the Bronze Wolf, the only distinction of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, awarded by the World Scout Committee for exceptional services to world Scouting, at the 22nd World Scout Conference. He was also awarded the Silver Buffalo in 1970. The Boy Scouts of the Philippines claims that Delgado conceived the World Scout Emblem during his stint as the first Asian World Scout Committee chairman from 1971 to 1973,[1] however the design was introduced at the 8th World Scout Jamboree in 1955, based on a 1939 earlier design by J. S. Wilson.
In 1987, Ambassador Delgado commissioned the Vatican Mosaic Studio to prepare a mosaic image of Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino saint, which was installed at the Altar of the Martyrdom of St. Peter in St. Peter's Basilica. It was during Ambassador Delgado's term of service that Lorenzo Ruiz was canonized as the first saint of the Philippines.
